First of all, I hope that you are all having a great summer and enjoying the fine weather. Scott Robinson and I have been busy contacting and scheduling bands for our upcoming fall season, the schedule is almost in place and will feature all of our favourite bands, RazzMaJazz, Josh Roberts, Bonnie Northgraves, Ragtime Ramblers, Tom and Georgina Arntzen, Swing Patrol and, of course, our house rhythm section with different great front line musicians, the White Rock Rhythm Kings.
Some sad news to report. John Pearson one of our long time members passed away on May 13 2025. John and his wife Vivian had a great love for Jazz and were always in attendance at our concerts at the Legion and Jazz festivals in Surrey and Victoria. Our condolences go out to Vivian and their family.
Carol Jensen has been in touch with one of our founding members and the former long time President of our club, Don Phillimore. Don and Dorothy are residents in Fleetwood Villa/Manor in Surrey. Don would love to hear from his friends and acquaintances in our club to catch up on current news and discuss old times. Don can be reached at 778-564-0766.
One upcoming event that you may be interested in is LindyBloom 2025 scheduled for July 4-6 at the Russian Hall in Vancouver. Bands featured include Josh Roberts, Michael Coury and Arntzens-3 Generations. More info on the their website: https://www.lindybloom.ca/ Ross Biggan and I carried out an inventory of the club’s audio equipment which is stored at the Legion. We repaired some equipment and tagged all pieces with the WRTJS logo. Our thanks to Ross, Camille Bowling and volunteers from our club who help prepare the Legion facility for all of our concerts.
Legion 240 would appreciate any volunteers for door duty and empties pick-up during their weekend events, and general help with their major events such as Remembrance Day, etc. Please contact Sylvia at the Legion if you are able to help out. Thanks.
